When you study for ACTs, you need to go somewhere that provides a conducive environment for college test prep. Here are a couple great places to go, and a couple not-so-good spots.
Good Idea: the Library.
Libraries are the perfect place to go study for ACTs. They’re quiet, giving you peace to think through ACT study questions. There’s tons of materials there that you can pull from the shelves to review, like additional ACT test prep books. Plus, there are computers you can use to take tests online and do other ACT online prep if you don’t feel like bringing your own computer.
Bad Idea: Your Friend’s House.
Having a study partner isn’t a bad idea, just so long as you actually study for ACTs, and not goof around, which is a more than likely scenario if you head to his or her house. Even if you swear you won’t, it will still be very tempting to play video games, watch a movie, or do something — anything — other than study for ACTs, which you need to do.
Good Idea: a Cafe.
A cafe is another great place to go to to study for ACTs for several reasons, but mainly because there’s fresh coffee there. Studies have shown that caffeine has helped boost consumers short-term memory, which means that you’ll have an easier time remembering what you study when you drink coffee. Plus, cafes have excellent ambiance. It’s not too loud, allowing you to concentrate, but it’s not dead silent, allowing you to stay stimulated as you study for ACTs.
Bad Idea: On the Bus
It might seem like a good idea to get some studying done when you’re on the bus or in the car going somewhere, but it’s actually a terrible idea for a couple of reasons. First of all, there’s just not enough time to get anything done. By the time you get your books out, you’ll have to put them back, because you’ll soon arrive at your destination. Secondly, if you do manage to get some studying done, there’s motion sickness to worry about. Studying can be awful enough with having it make you literally feel unwell.
These are just a couple good places to study, and a couple not-so-good ones. If you know of any other awesome study spots, feel free to share in the comments.
